#FountainHillsFriday: Small Business Saturday

Happy Monday, Fountain Hills! This week we wanted to give everyone a reminder to shop Fountain Hills this weekend, as Small Business Saturday is back in action! This Saturday, November 25,  marks the annual “Small Business Saturday”, a time many have come to know and recognize and save some gifts to buy until then to support local businesses.

Small Business Saturday (SBS) is geared to encourage those shopping for winter holiday gifts to shop in their local, small, “mom and pop” type stores, instead of heading to the large box businesses they may have normally gone to in the past.

According to American Express, Small Business Saturday was officially introduced to consumers in 2010. Since then, the movement has grown immensely, and now all 50 states acknowledge this special day for small businesses. In 2011, the United States Senate even unanimously passed a resolution of support for SBS. In 2014, the Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey estimates that the US spent nearly $14.3 billion at small independent businesses on that day, and that 95 million people went to support SBS in 2015 alone.

Consumers are not the only ones marking Small Business Saturday on their calendars; businesses are also getting involved. They were able to register their businesses online as participators in SBS to encourage people to not only come to their store, but to support independent businesses.

Once the turkey leftovers are finished and it is time to cross a couple holiday gifts off of your to-do list, make sure to go out and  support your community on Small Business Saturday!
