Update: HB2404, SB1474, Prop 105

HB2404

Representative Vince Leach introduced a bill that would restrict out-of-state initiatives to the Arizona ballot. Legislators are proposing stronger signature-gathering requirements for those seeking to amend the law and restrictions on funding streams for initiative campaigns. They’re also seeking an outright repeal of the Voter Protection Act.

SB1474

Senator Bob Worsley introduced a bill that will regulate athletic facilities. This is an attempt to pass legislation that will allow the Arizona Coyotes to build a new stadium at the cost of Arizona taxpayers. The bill has received little attention and will have an uphill battle at the state legislature.

Proposition 105

Representative Ugenti-Rita introduced three bills that will amend Prop. 105. “Even the ability of lawmakers to further the intent of the law is ‘murky’ and lawmakers don’t actually know what would qualify as furthering the intent of the law” she said. Arizona is amongst the toughest of states for legislators to make changes to voter approved law. Ugenti-Rita has been on the forefront of the fight for years.
