Fountain Hills Friday: VFW Post 7507

It’s Friday, so you know what that means! Time for another Fountain Hills Friday member spotlight. This week we are highlighting the VFW Post 7507. They are kicking off their new “Veterans’ Community & Resource Center” that aims to assist local veterans in many aspects of life. We got to hear some more information from Boe James, the Post’s Adjutant, about all of the exciting details about this new service for our Country’s Service men and women:

Fountain Hills VFW Post 7507 proudly announces the opening of a Veterans’ Community and Resource Center within the confines of its new Post Home at 9624 N Monterey Drive.  The first series of classes to be held on Wednesday nights begins today, October 26th at 5 p.m. at the Post Home.

To provide services to the veterans community, the Post has acquired computers and peripheral equipment to allow it to hold classes for active duty members and honorably discharged veterans and their families in its new Veterans Community and Resource Center.  Topics will include basic computer skills, career skills, job hunting techniques (possibly including Skype or other video interview techniques); advanced computer skills such as using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer applications/programs; and use of Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  Additionally, classes and discussion of VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) benefits and health classes might be included in future programs.  The Veterans’ Community and Resource Center has been funded in part by the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services as made available through the Arizona Veterans’ Donation Fund.

The first class will be basic computer and e-mail skills intended for those with limited computer knowledge. It will include security issues and informational warnings on SPAM.  Classes are open to all honorably discharged veterans, and their spouses or family members, without regard to membership in the VFW.  Future topics will be based on student needs and desires.  The schedule will be posted on the Post’s website at http://www.VFWPost7507.org and the Post’s Facebook page.  Advanced registration is not required for this class.

November classes will be held on Wednesdays November, 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 30th (no classes on November 23rd – day before Thanksgiving) at the Post Home from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

More information about the programs can be obtained by contacting the Post by e-mail at VFW7507@yahoo.com or calling the Post at 480-836-5520.
