Linkedin 101 Seminar is about more than being techie

Not a week goes by that I don’t have a quick browse through Linkedin but I must admit I do not use it as I should. As I have talked to business owners in Fountain Hills, many have connected with me or me with them but yet I see few updates or information from them after the connection is made.

According to Linkedin, their mission is “To connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful. When you join LinkedIn, you get access to people, jobs, news, updates, and insights that help you be great at what you do.”

Hmmm… sounds very snappy and like I should be using it more to help the Chamber grow our membership. After all, Linkedin is designed for business users and yet I spend more time growing our business and connecting with members on Facebook.

So, why Linkedin? I found a few compelling reasons in an article titled 10 Reasons Your Brand Needs to be on Linkedin from Forbes magazine, such as:

  • Linkedin is even more B2B than Facebook
  • It’s the 3rd most socially used platform for businesses
  • Business brand identity and improved business relationships

Those are all good reasons, but I already have a Linededin profile and nearly 400 connections. Three years ago I attended a seminar by Ken Coburn, Founder of Data Doctors, and he suggested that a connection request is like someone extending their hand to meet me. He went on to say, “You wouldn’t ignore someone in person. So why not accept their request online?” That makes sense to me.

Lucky for us, our local Town Councilmember, Nick DePorter, works for Linkedin and will teaching the Linkedin 101 Seminar at the Fountain Hills Chamber on Wednesday, May 11 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. FREE for members but limited to 20 participants. Join me and sign-up today.
