When was the last time you thanked a Veteran? 

If you watch or read the news there is evidence of military conflicts throughout the World. You will also likely notice the United States is involved in many. While some of our military personnel, active and retired, do not see combat it’s still important to recognize their dedication to serve.

 

Serving in the armed forces is not a job-it’s a commitment to serve the entire Nation. These dedicated men and women give up much of their own freedom to support the safety of over 300 million Americans, every single day. They often sacrifice time with their families, missing birthday parties, holidays and their kid’s soccer games, in order to serve us. Some are wounded in combat and maintain life-long scars while others suffer from emotional challenges that are life changing. All in the name of protecting democracy. 

 

People who believe in service as a priority are compelled by the nature of their very existence to give to others, first. They are motivated by an internal desire to provide for everyone else before taking care of themselves. It’s a completely different philosophy than those who seek power, fame and fortune. Nothing wrong with either but they’re not the same.

 

From my perspective, every single service member and Veteran believe in a cause much larger than themselves and bears recognition more than one day per year. If you ask they do not seek anything elaborate except a simple “Thank you for your service”. It’s a reminder that you value their commitment and appreciate why they sacrificed.
